The March Slice of Life Challenge 2018 is over. So today I opened my journal, sketched and wrote. The journal was the home where I grew as an artist and writer. The pen was my tool to harvest ideas and plant seeds. So today I went back home:
Reader, writer, runner, observer of all things, artist and journal keeper! Mom of three crazy girls and wife to one fun guy! Still a curious teacher after 25 years!

What an artist you are, with sketches AND words. I love this for several reasons – first thinking about all the writing I did as a child with paper and pencil (my dad asking “Why are you using up all the paper?”). Then there’s the brain research about the actual movement of the hand; there’s a nerve connected to brain and writing stimulates more thought. And the whole idea of returning to one’s roots – Writer, know thyself. Well-done.
I love how you sketch and use a journal. Many (like myself) are so technology based. But you do get a different outcome sometimes without the computer.
Mmm… the combination of line drawing and words is really powerful here. Inspires me a bit to think about adding sketches (though I’m terrible) to my journals. I know that drawing is about deep observation – and so is writing, as it turns out. Thanks for reminding me of that.
This is so lovely–and a good reminder of one intention I brought home from NCTE and haven’t followed through on of sketching more. I love the idea of the journal as home and the writing as revisiting our roots.
I felt similarly about returning to my morning pages which suffered during the challenge. I love your sketches combined with your words. They complement each other beautifully.

I like the repetition of your beginning and end. I’m glad you got to go back. It’s clear that this is your heart.
