I was one of 16,000
there to run
Through tunnels of cherry blossoms
I ran elbow to elbow
no one running for a PR
everyone there
simply to run
Through tunnels of cherry blossoms
I looked to my left
I looked to my right
and the blossoms cheered me on
I gazed across the water
and the blossoms waved me on
I was one of 16,000
who ran from
and to
the Washington Monument
Through tunnels of cherry blossoms
ten glorious miles
Through tunnels of cherry blossoms
I’m not a runner like you, but pretty scenery definitely makes running way more enjoyable. I love the repetition in your piece. Enjoy the cheery blossoms!

If I had to run a marathon I’d want to run under a tunnel of cherry blossoms cheering me on! I can imagine the beauty and the aroma! Ahhh!
Hope they cheered you to a personal victory!

I can picture the tunnels. Did you think of this poem while running or after? Hooray for finishing the race!

Wow. Congratulations on the run and the poem. I love the images. I was in D.C. on Sunday morning as you finished. I was only yards away. I listened to the DJ announcing the names of runners as they crossed the line, and I felt less fit. I was in line for the Museum of African American History, which was also amazing, though not always as uplifting as running through tunnels of cherry blossoms. It’s a hard history lesson, like going through a different kind of tunnel.
