Chic Choc maters

My daughter Hannah and her boyfriend are an adventurous, outdoorsy pair. In the winter months they spend their weekends not only skiing Vermont, but exploring the back country. Back country skiing involves touring and climbing up mountains in secluded areas and then skiing down. (yes, it requires certain gear and a curious mindset). A few weeks ago, they took a little vacation to the Chic Choc mountains in Canada to explore a bit of the back country.

Saturday, Hannah was home and we were sitting around the table chit chatting about her Chic Choc trip. We peppered her with the questions,

“How long did it take to get there?”

“From Alan’s in VT it took 10 hours. It was a long drive.”

“How many days were you there?”

“We traveled on Sunday. We toured and skied Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.”

“How was the air bnb?”

“It was small, but it was perfect.”

“Would you go back?”

“Well, yes, but first there’d have to be more snow and I’d make sure parts of the mountain weren’t closed.”

“The mountains were closed?”

“Apparently it was caribou mating season and there were a whole lot of them up there…mating.”

When I had Hannah, 24 years ago, my Aunt Pauline told me to remember that the baby was coming into my life. At some point, the life we gave her became hers, and now, she shares it life with us, caribou mating and all.

  2. That is so funny! What a great way to start the day thinking of caribou mating. Your daughter has a fun sense of adventure. Those caribou might need to eat some graham crackers for reasons I discovered over the weekend and share today…..

    1. love your fun fact about graham crackers — who knew — not sure graham crackers could fight the natural instincts of those caribou! Thanks, Kim! Have a great day!
