dig and turn
mix and rake
like a mason pours the foundation
we prepare ours
elbows deep in dirt and leaves
dig and turn
mix and rake
preparing our foundation
unearthing worms
welcome, working worms
reusing leaves
we scatter seeds so tiny
gently covering
softly tamping
dig, turn, mix, rake
prepare the foundation
the bedrock of our garden
How exciting…the bedrock is set. Now you wait for the magic to happen!

The repetition was the perfect foundation for the poem! Enjoy those seeds!

Beautiful. I haven’t even started this year, since my raised bed had a very hard winter and desperately needs repairs…that I’m not really capable of executing. I love the “elbows deep in dirt” image.

What a great connection to the work of a mason. All that hard work will surely pay off!
